By popular demand, we have upgraded our new Stoptail bridge!
You asked for it, so I figured out how to make it! MannMade USA recently announced the release of our Intonatable Stoptail bridge. I received a lot of positive feedback on this, however lots of players asked if I could provide pre-slotted saddles. I was a bit hesitant at first, because not all stoptails are mounted perpendicular to the center of the neck. Some of those old Gibson Les Pauls and SG’s had the bridge canted quite a bit! Pre-slotted saddles would not be a good choice for those guitars.
Many PRS guitars are equipped with non-adjustable stoptail bridges, and it seems like a lot of owners would love to have an intonatable solution. Because these bridges are set pretty square to the neck, pre-slotted saddles would be an excellent option.
So we did it! Not only did we slot the saddle, we also made it thicker… for more mass… better tone… more sustain…
The saddles, screws, studs and stud wells are all machined from solid brass billet and left unplated for better tonal transfer. The bridge itself is precision CNC machined from aircraft grade aluminium. It comes in a several finishes.
After installing the prototype on to my 2010 PRS McCarty Dallas Shootout edition, I was amazed how good it sounded!

For sustain and comfort while palm muting, would you recommend the USA PRS wraparound tailpiece, or the Mann intonatable bridge?
John MannDecember 4, 2015 at 9:59 PMAuthor
In my humble opinion the MannMade USA bridge has better tone and sustain. Many new users on the official PRS forum agree!

Both are great choices. The MannMade USA version does offer more accurate intomnation capabilities, and many folks feel it sounds better!

I’m officially keeping her, having my go to guitar guy patch up the war wound, and ordered a J. Mann / MannMade USA adjustable wraparound bridge in polished aluminum, nickel strap pins, clear/black knobs and a few other odds and ends and am going for a hybrid hardware look.
My main concern with the chip isn’t looks, or even resale value….I don’t buy guitars to flip, I try and find keepers, and I usually know in the first 48 hours if one is worthy or not. Most of the gems in my collection are guitars I wasn’t on a particular quest for, more of a right time/right place thing, so I’m mostly concerned with keeping things from getting worse, its not on the face, cant see it playing in a seated position, and in performance situations it will be covered by a strap, so visual perfection isn’t that big a deal.
Bottom line, after playing her extensively , if I could go back knowing what I know now, but she already had the chip….I would still buy her, and at full asking price if I had to. She is stunning in all capacities , believe it or not she plays and sounds far better than she looks, and IMO that is really saying something.

Will the Mann adjustable stoptail fit the SE 22 standard metric studs or will the studs need replacing?
John MannMay 31, 2016 at 7:38 AMAuthor
Kelly, At this time we provide only US threaded Studs and wells with our 2300 Intonatable Stoptail bridge. We also include the necessady tools and instructions for replacing the metric stud wells.

Hi,
I am looking to replace the stop tail on a USA core model MC58.
Does the stud pieces need to be replaced?
John MannSeptember 20, 2016 at 11:15 AMAuthor
John, No you can use the existing stud wells in the guitar. I do recommend you do use the studs included with each bridge.

Hi, I’m looking to replace the bridge on my PRS SE245. I tried some other options, but they wouldn’t fit. Will this be a working solution? Thank you!
John MannOctober 25, 2016 at 9:58 AMAuthor
Corey,
These bridges work great with the PRS SE models ! You will have to replace the stud wells, as they are metric. We include everything you need to do the swap.

I have a PRS Core Mira made in 2008. Looking to buy this bridge for downtuning purposes. If I buy the pre slotted version, will I still need to have the bridge’s radius dialed in by a tech, or will it be right on?
John MannOctober 25, 2016 at 9:55 AMAuthor
Ron
You should be good to go with the pre-slotted saddles.

Hello, John! Are your PRS SE replacement bridges available with nickle stoptail studs? It is purely cosmetic, I’m just not a fan of the two-tone (gold and nickle) look. Also, is your available date for the stoptail bridges still approx Oct 2017?
Many thanks!!

Mike, Yes I also make Nickle, Gold and Black Nickel Studs. They are available as sets only and can be purchased direct from John Mann’s Guitar Vault

Any news on a drop-in replacement for metric SE 245 bridges?
I don’t trust myself or a luthier here in Athens (the original one, not the one in Ohio) to do a good job by changing to US bushings etc.
The Youtube procedure you showed made me wince (OK, I am a little exaggerating…)
Cheers,
N.F.
(man, I am really irritated that they put a non-intonatable bridge in a 700 Euros guitar)
John MannNovember 27, 2017 at 8:54 AMAuthor
Nick, it’s actually quite easy to do. However, if you are not confident, I understand…
In the next few months we will have metric studs available for our bridges! Keep checking our website for updates. ~ John Mann

Hi John.
Is it possible to covert my PRS SE EG (Korean, 3 single coils) from the tremolo bridge to a hard tail (as the other version of this guitar came as)? Currently, tuning is unstable. It already has locking tuners and a compensated nut. I do not utilize the tremolo in my playing. Thank you kindly. Tom
John MannMarch 26, 2018 at 6:57 PMAuthor
Tom, Typically these issues are solove-able, but if you don’t use a trem, there are options. It is not typically NOT feasible to replace a trem with a fixed bridge.
However you can block you trem from moving. Many famous musicians have done this, including Eric Clapton. If you need more help, please email me direct. ~ John

Hi John,
Quick question: what is the weight of your intonatable stoptail bridge, at least compared to the standard PRS wraptail? I want better intonation for my CU22 but don’t want to add weight to the guitar. Thanks in advance.

Hi
I need to replace the stoptail bridge of my Godin Empire, because it is not adjustable. I think it is the same used on prs; please confirm that so I put my order.
Thank you
John MannMay 23, 2018 at 9:44 AMAuthor
Giovanni ~ More than likely it is the Gibson spacing. The correct model # is 2310.

Hi, I own a PRS Mira (can be 2010 model) in perfect conditions that I’m gonna “improve” with new pickups, wiring and hardware. It has the no-intonation stoptail. Is the 2300 model ok for that guitar? Should I modify the original hardware in some way or it is just a swap between the bridges?
Thanks a lot!

Hi John, I have a 2005 McCarty. This bridge should be a drop in, correct? Also, every picture I see of this bridge has it setup as low as it can go. Is that the intent of the design? Will I still be able to get a 4/64 string height during setup? Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers.
John MannMarch 20, 2020 at 3:27 PMAuthor
Correct, I want it as low as possible, yet still being able to achieve factory setup.

Hi John. Just purchased a new (used) to me 2015 PRS CU22 Artist Package USA with wraparound bridge. No issues I can tell yet but was wondering what you would suggest as an upgrade. Thank you!
John MannJuly 2, 2020 at 8:07 PMAuthor
2000NOS = 1 pc red brass casting, cnc precision machined.. This is the original “Gen I” bridge for PRS. It has a bit more mid-range tones and more sustain than the PRS Gen II or Gen III bridges, due to the 1 pc construction.
https://www.johnmannsguitarvault.com/shop/Parts/Guitar-Parts/Bridges/p/MannMade-USA-2000NOS-Vibrato-Bridge—Nickel-x46424274.htm
2040 = 2 pc yellow brass billet, cnc precision machined. Basically the same as the PRS Gen II bridges.
https://www.johnmannsguitarvault.com/shop/Parts/Guitar-Parts/Bridges/p/MannMade-USA-PRSMANN-Vibrato-Bridge—Nickel-x47867916.htm
2059 = SE Upgrade Kit, utilizes the SE bridge plate and replaces the block, saddles, mounting screws, springs with our made in the USA brass block, brass saddles, steel screws, springs.
https://www.johnmannsguitarvault.com/shop/Parts/Guitar-Parts/p/MannMade-USA-Upgrade-Kit—PRS-CE-SE-S2-Bridges—Nickel-x42807174.htm
2053 = Upgrade Block, replaces the SE block (steel) with our Brass block (made in USA)

All of these are great choices !

Hi …
Just found your website. Just recently purchased a PRS SE “Paul’s Guitar”. Theses are made in Indonesia. What would you suggest for replacing the tuners with locking tuners (Klusen Style, black keys) and replacing the bridge? Thanks so much!
Tim
John MannDecember 22, 2021 at 8:54 AMAuthor
Those are great guitars! I would leave the tuners as is, unless you wnat locking tuners for ease of changing strings. Then get MannMade USA #7025 here.

Thank you! Look for tune-a-matics in 2022 Q1
